Education & Sports
We are aware that a good education system is vital for society development and at the same time, answers our desire to have highly trained future employees. Consequently, we support education and get involved with all our resources to encourage students and youth to achieve excellence.
We believe in the importance of creating a close link between corporations and the academic world that offers students a pragmatic perspective on the professional environment, thus giving them the chance to combinetheir theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge.
Over the years we supported various student organizations activities such as, AIESEC, V.I.P., and C.R.O.S. and provided support to the Central University Library of Bucharest.
We are also followers of excellence, and sport is one of the areas which exists for and through this concept. In addition, we support competitiveness and want to be the best in our field. In the past UniCredit Bank has supported various sports competitions in fields such as,yachting, horseback riding, athletics, rowing, and tennis.
In 2009, UniCredit Group became the official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League and has been for the last three seasons (2009-2012). This partnership started with the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, which offers football enthusiasts and the general public the opportunity to see the UEFA Champions League trophy and enter the effervescent atmosphere of the most prestigious European inter-club competition.
The first group of countries the trophy was taken to included Italy, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Romania was the only country where the trophy could be admired in five cities: Arad, Timisoara, Sibiu, Brasov, and Pitesti. Then, the Trophy stayed in Bucharest for three days, at the Trophy Tour Village, an exhibition space that recreated the atmosphere of the UEFA Champions League for fans. The Trophy Tour Ambassador in Romania was Helmut Duckadam, our worldwide famous goalkeeper, registered in the Guinness Book of Records for having saved four consecutive penalties at the 1986 European Cup Final.
Through the Trophy Tour, we have encouraged the competitive spirit thatwe aim to transmit children and thusinspire them to be the winner. Therefore, 250 talented children from local school football teams in the host towns received one piece of sport equipment from our bank. Also, the teams of children at the Special Olympics in each of the six cities received complete football equipment and an official UEFA Champions League match ball autographed by Helmut Duckadam.
In 2012, the Trophy returned to Romania, this time accompanied by the local Ambassador Milodrag Belodedici.
Between 2006 and 2010 we offered scholarships to the most talented master students that were selected by a jury of two representatives, one from the University and the other from UniCredit Bank.
